Dear, Future Me...

Dear Future Cara,

Well your college days are long gone and “real life” so we call it is in full swing. One thing you have to remember as a college student is not to give up. All this schooling I promise you is worth it. You will make friends and memories that will last you a lifetime. Your college experience is one like no other. No price can be put on the things you learn here, well besides your tuition that I know your still paying for. Studying is going to take up a majority of your time but you’ll learn to deal with it and the grades you get will reflect how much you do. Don’t worry about your major now, because you found it out and right now at 28 you love your job! Not to mention you love your family even more. You’ve been married for 5 years now and are passing on all the things you learned in your college years to your children. Things these days are a lot different mainly technology wise. If I would have to give you any advice, it’s to get more involved with new ways of communication. Technology I know you aren’t very interested in, but if you want to get by, and be able to help your kids out with their homework, you are going to need to know how to use these gadgets. Just be smart and make wise decisions! In the end you will have the life you always imagined.

Lets Get Physical..Physical!

One of my favorite things to do in the whole entire world is workout! I absolutely love staying active and living a healthy lifestyle. Somethings I enjoy doing include bike riding, rollerblading, running, paddle boarding, playing sports and swimming. Im someone whose always on the go, stopping only when its time to refuel. I guess you could say i have some form of ADD (attention deficit disorder). Sitting down all day for class is one thing that is hard for me. So one thing I do to help ease this problem is by walking to class. That usually burns some energy, as well as taking the stairs everyday to my dorm room. Did I forget to mention I live on the fifth floor? I also use the treadmill and bike machine in the laundry room while my clothes are in the wash. Doing little things like this throughout the day help me manage and feel like I’m doing some good for my body. Maybe I just like being outside and have a craving for doing things in the sun. This might be likely seeing how I love to tan and go to the beach. You may be thinking how can she sit still long enough to catch some sun. Well of course I have to do laps in the pool or if I’m at the beach take a long stroll. Whatever it is that makes me feel the urge to constantly be in motion is, I love it and its who I am! Gotta go, I’ll catch ya later! Want to join me for a run?

College shift >> into the F U T U R E

http://education.gsu.edu/ctl/Programs/Future_Colleges.htm

Degrees will wither in importance. Today, the meaning of a degree varies in content and quality, depending on the college. In essence, we offer thousands of different degrees, even if they are called by the same name. A degree now signifies a period of successful college attendance; the class rank indicates the relative success of the student; and the name of the college marks the quality of the degree.

However, with the change in emphasis from institutional process to educational outcomes, degrees will become far less meaningful. A transcript of each student’s competencies, including the specific information that the student knows or the skills that he or she can perform, will be far more desirable.

Colleges now have a virtual monopoly on higher-education credentials. If degrees become less important, how will we continue to attract students in a world offering limitless educational choices? Why would a student stay at the same college for periods of up to five years if degrees give way to specific competencies? And, under those circumstance, what are the prospects for residential institutions? Will traditional collegiate life become the province of only the most affluent in our society, who have the leisure and money to afford it?

______________________________________________________________

From this article, i am praying that degrees do not lose any importance! I currently being in college, am looking to find a career that will be able to support me and one day a family. Having completed almost one summer session of college it is clear that this is going to be hard work. If my hard work in the end is not going to pay off its almost like I don’t feel college is worth attending. And if this trend continues who knows if my kids will even have to go to high school if all people care about are certain skills.

If it is not evident already, this article highly upsets me. It is basically degrading the college system saying that people are no longer likely to be interested in going. Pursuing anything academically, now thats completely out of the question. The author of this article is basically saying that jobs will be given based upon what your good at, not exactly what you studied. For example if you are a veterinarian, but love to talk your most likely going to end up being a secretary. Right now I am going to say that this isn’t what I agree with but I sadly see it happening with college tuitions reaching outrageous amounts.

College so far...

College so far has been a pretty overwhelming experience! Some surprising things I have learned include not judging a book by its cover, this piece of advice does not go towards books but rather people. Almost everyone here nice and willing to help its just a matter of asking for help. People you normally go to for advice, usually end up being the ones who can help you the most! Another thing I have learned at college is I am not a baby anymore and every decision made reflects me directly instead of mom and dad. Basically do whats expected and make smart decisions or your name will easily earn a reputation. Lastly, is making time to study! High school requires little to no effort to pass, but college on the other hand is completely your will to learn. Classes aren’t as bad as I expected because the teachers here are great and explain everything very clearly. One tip completely off topic related to college is DON’T BE A SLOB and clean up after yourself always

Casey Anthony Not Guilty!

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/os-casey-anthony-verdict-20110704,0,1425780.story

Casey Anthony who has been on trial for the last thirty-six days, was been confirmed by a jury of eleven members, not guilty. This case is one familiar to most if not all Floridians because it has been an ongoing investigation since 2008. Although I was not a member of the jury I do think someone in that courtroom was guilty of the murder of Caylee. There was simply too much evidence and too many coincidences and way too much lying to not have found anyone guilty for the crime. The whole Anthony family seemed to have covered something up by saying one thing then being proven by detectives it as a false statement otherwise known as a lie. I think everyone just wants justice for Caylee Anthony and in this case, none was found or at least not yet.

Black Eyed Peas vs Dirty Dancing - The time (dirty bit) of my life (re-edit)

Black Eyed Peas- Time of My Life (Dirty Bit) is a song that goes well for this part of my life right now. This song is all about celebrating where you are and who you are with! In my case its college and living it up to the fullest and making it the best experience possible. I’ve made friends and am still managing to keep up with my summer classes as well as having time to explore tampa and workout! I think its a fun song to sing and dance to also (:

charlie bit me !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM

“Charlie Bit my Finger” is probably one of the most popular videos to ever reach the web. On Youtube this viral video has 347,182,903 hits! These everyday people posted a video simply because they thought it was funny, never because they intended to become recognized or in some peoples eyes famous! Often what does not come across ones mind when posting silly videos is that everyone can see them, and also share them, and those people share them with more people and the trend continues. So the more that video is passed along via electronically through email, internet or any source of social media it is gaining a reputation and eventually becomes viral. This video became so well known that it sparked attention in national news and Charlie and Older brother Harry, two ordinary kids, have made appearances on real television shows such as ABC’s Today Show!
